ResolutionEnglishProposed Resolutions for the meeting of Panch Pardhani UK on 24 October 2026 at Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Letchworth Garden City.
These resolutions are proposed for adoption at the meeting. The final record should reflect any amendments and the decisions actually reached.
Panch Pardhani UK will provide direction, coordination and encouragement for work arising from these resolutions. It will bring together relevant individuals and organisations, identify priorities and review progress. Each participating organisation will decide what action it can undertake.
Resolution 1: Respect for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in Prakash
The meeting affirms that respect for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in prakash is a fundamental Sikh principle. It encourages careful consideration of the conduct expected in places where prakash takes place, including how concerns about beadbi should be addressed fairly and responsibly.
Implementation: Panch Pardhani UK will invite individuals and organisations already working in this area to share their experience and identify matters on which common guidance or joint action would be useful. Any proposed guidance should distinguish questions of Sikh practice and discipline from questions governed by state law.
Resolution 2: Respect Online and in Artificial Intelligence
The meeting affirms that respect for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji also applies when Gurbani and related material are presented online or used by artificial intelligence. Accuracy, context and the risk of misleading presentation require sustained attention.
Implementation: Panch Pardhani UK will convene a specialist group with knowledge of Gurbani, Sikh practice and digital technology. The group will examine specific problems, consult relevant organisations and prepare practical recommendations for families, content creators and gurdwaras. It will report its initial findings at a subsequent meeting.
Resolution 3: Democracy and Sikhs — Declaration for Building a Sikh Democratic Community
The meeting encourages Sikhs living in Britain to participate effectively in democratic and civic life through voting, engagement with elected representatives and participation in public institutions. To guide this work, the meeting [approves / approves with the amendments recorded in the minutes] the Declaration for Building a Sikh Democratic Community as a framework for further discussion and practical action.
Panch Pardhani UK will publish the agreed Declaration alongside the meeting resolutions, invite responses from Sikh organisations, and bring interested individuals and organisations together to identify a small number of achievable initiatives. These may include improving understanding of the Westminster system, sharing effective ways to engage with MPs and public authorities, and supporting wider participation in local civic life. Responses to the Declaration will help shape these priorities. Its approval establishes a shared direction for further work; it does not commit participating organisations to every proposal associated with it.
Resolution 4: Sikh Sovereignty
The meeting agrees that Sikh sovereignty in the Sikh homeland requires a distinct discussion. Participants may differ over its meaning, political aims and proposed means of pursuing them. Those differences should be recorded accurately before any collective position is claimed. This working group may consider the following declaration:
“We affirm the Panth’s right and responsibility to govern its religious, institutional and communal affairs in accordance with Gurmat, free from Hindutva colonisation and other imposed ideologies. We affirm the right of Sikhs to pursue territorial autonomy in their homeland by peaceful and lawful means, with equal dignity, safety, freedom of conscience and political rights for every inhabitant. In Britain, Panthic autonomy should be exercised through accountable institutions and principled civic participation within British law.”
Implementation: If required, Panch Pardhani UK will prepare a discussion paper setting out the principal meanings and proposals raised at the meeting, the points of agreement and the questions still open. It will circulate the paper for comment before bringing any proposed substantive resolution to a later meeting.
